According to Vogue this morning, the recession is lifting. Don't get too excited because apparently the recession is lifting because Burberry and Versace have reported sales increases. Er, right.
This isn't a recession lift, it means that people are being more careful what they spend their money on. If you had the choice between a bag that costs a bit more but will last you a lifetime or a bag that is cheap but lasts a month, what are you going to choose?
Just because people with money are choosing these two brands, it does not mean that the recession is over. There is a below post about the sell out items on netaporter.com as well. People do have cash, but it's not your average person on the street buying a 15,000 Alexander McQueen gown. So who is buying this stuff?
I saved for ages to buy my McQueen, and even at that it was a great price. Same with my Vivienne. So maybe it's people who have been saving for a long time? I don't know!
Mulberry have also reported a sales increase this year. Which means that the advertising drive behind the Alexa, is working.
anyway, here are the stats :
Burberry - 21% increase
Versace - 13% increase
That should keep Donatella in fake tans and get her a new pair of tits anyway!
